Justine Henin abruptly ended her career at
a news conference in Belgium today, becoming the first woman to retire
from the sport while ranked No. 1. She had been searching for motivation
after a recent string of heavy losses before deciding to call it quits.
"It is a course that has been in my head for some months, since the end
of 2007," she said. "I have arrived at the end of the road, I lived everything,
gave everything, and I have my head held high."
